With more than four decades of experience creating beautiful heritage statuary, Adam Williams is one of the few artists in the country devoting his skills to original garden stonework. He works with a carefully chosen team of designers, sculptors, mould makers and casting experts to guarantee each piece not only looks splendid but is ready to stand the test of time on your estate.

Pieces made to order from our Garden Statues collection are cast in moulds at Adam’s Somerset studio. We use our own proprietary mix of stone dust (crushed Bath and Portland stone) and white cement, with no other aggregates. This results in a smooth, high quality stone surface that absorbs moisture and dries evenly, able to withstand any weather for generations to come.

After casting, our material is easy to work using masonry techniques as we remove the mould lines and other casting artefacts. Adam will subtly antique your piece with an acrylic wash to ensure it looks slightly weathered on arrival – ready to settle into its location without appearing excessively fresh or clean alongside the existing masonry.

Bespoke originals

Bespoke originals

Clients often ask Adam to create stonework coats of arms, classical animal statues and creatures from folklore and fantasy – and he is more than happy to oblige. As we write this piece, he has a dragon, a griffin and various heraldic works in progress.

Adam will meet with you to discuss the work, understand exactly what you need, explain potential limitations and gather any references that may have inspired you. Your concept will be sketched and drafted, taking into account factors like how the limbs and appendages will be supported, where air might become trapped in the mould, and how surface detail can be carried through to the finished piece.

Our Design Process

Sculpting
01

Sculpting

Should you wish to proceed, your piece will be sculpted in clay or carved in stone and a mould taken of it, made from rubber and fibreglass. From there, casting can begin. Our proprietary mix of liquid stone will be poured into the mould upside down with vibrating rods used to dislodge any air bubbles as needed.

Moulding
02

Moulding

This is a high-precision, challenging process, especially with large works, however our machinery is capable of turning a load of up to five tonnes.

Casting
03

Casting

After 24 hours, the material will have set. Once rotated to upright, the mould comes off and the statue will be carefully worked to remove any inconsistencies for a smooth and realistic finish. Carved detailing and texture may also be added at this stage, and Adam will apply his specialised antiquing skills to accentuate how the light falls on your statue, lending further definition to its finer curves.
